eDevice.

eDevice, a new company that has recently been launched in the U.S. and Europe, is focused on developing Internet-enabling technologies for OEMs. Their SmartStack[TM] technology allows any device to access the Internet without a PC. SmartStack enables users to connect any office, household or industrial equipment system and then access the Internet. It is the first technology of its kind in the new Light Internet Device arena.

SmartStack technology provides all the components necessary for Internet connectivity on a single Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chip. With SmartStack, the DSP contains: a software-based modem, software protocols for Internet transactions and space to host the client application. The DSP is able to execute the modem software and the Internet Protocol Stack Software, and the complete reference design provided by SmartStack reduces the development effort required for adding Internet connectivity.

eDevice plans to make SmartStack available on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) during the first half of the year. Additional plans include developing other access methods for wireless and electric line-based local networks to complement the SmartStack technology.

eDevice is currently marketing SmartStack technology throughout North and South America and Europe. The company also plans to develop partnerships with embedded systems integrators, data management companies and ISPs.

According to the IDC, the Internet appliance market is experiencing considerable growth, and by 2002 it estimates that there will be about 150 million Internet appliances installed in homes worldwide. EDevice's new technology will allow them to contribute to this market growth.

eDevice was founded in the fourth quarter of 1999 by a group of three partners. These founders are: Marc Berrebi, CEO, Stephan Schinazi, executive VP of research and development and product management, and Alex Guillot, VP of U.S. sales. Berrebi founded Marvin Software, and Guillot was previously sales director at Marvin. Schinazi is founder, president and CEO of Digitelec SA.

eDevice is headquartered in New York, and has research and development facilities in Bordeaux, France. The company is ten percent owned by Digitelec SA, a French company involved in communication technology and one of eDevice's key partners.
